After Ashwin-Buttler incident Keemo Paul says he will never Mankad anybody again
Another popular instance of Mankading is that involving Keemo Paul.
One of the top headlines from the first week of this IPL has been Ravichandran Ashwin’s Mankading act against Jos Buttler. While Rajasthan Royals (RR) were chasing 185 in their first game of the season against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), they were in a pretty good position. Buttler was going well and batting on 67. But in the 13th over Buttler had backed up pretty far when Ashwin was in his delivery stride.
The bowler thus decided to Mankad, Buttler without a warning. The KXIP skipper felt that he was in his right to run Buttler out. This was not the first time Buttler was involved in such a dismissal. Sachithra Senanayake had dismissed him in a similar fashion back in 2014. Also, this isn’t the first time Ashwin is involved in such an incident. Back in 2012 during the Commonwealth Bank tri-series in Australia, he attempted a similar one against Lahiru Thirimanne.
Keemo Paul locked himself inside the room after the Mankading backlash
Another popular instance of Mankading is that involving Keemo Paul. The West Indian pacer was involved in Mankading in the 2016 ICC Under-19 World Cup. In a crucial game against Zimbabwe, Paul Mankaded when Zimbabwe required just three runs and had just one wicket remaining. He admitted that he cried a lot and locked himself up after the backlash he received for his actions.
“I just locked myself away, I saw it on BBC, I read a lot of comments on social media, I took it hard and I cried a lot,” Paul was quoted saying by ESPNCricinfo.
He further went onto reveal that he probably won’t repeat the mode of dismissal again in his life.
“I came down hard on myself, kept wondering if I did the right thing. That was just instinct. Now I have matured more and I don’t think I will probably do it again,” he added.
