Ahmed Shehzad receives advice from Sachin Tendulkar as he attempts to make a comeback

Pakistani cricketer Ahmad Shehzad has sought the advice of India’s cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar in his bid to make a comeback into the Pakistani team. Shehzad was banned for 5 months by PCB last July for violating anti-doping regulations, after testing positive for a prohibited substance. Initially banned for four months, Shehzad’s ban was lengthened by 6 weeks for breaching the ban terms by participating in friendly matches in Pakistan.

Despite his subsequent apology, the PCB made no exceptions in lengthening his ban till last December. Now Shehzad has served his ban term and is currently playing in the fourth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He is currently benefiting from his introspection during the period and had turned to Sachin for guidance and motivation in his hour of need.

“I had a talk with Sachin and he was stressing that you should not regret,” Shehzad was quoted as saying in Gulf News. “In his interviews also, he has said that one should do so much hard work that there shouldn’t be any regret. I have tried to do that. As a Muslim, you believe that things will happen as per the wishes of Allah but if your process is good and giving 110 percent then that’s what is important.”

Shehzad has appeared in 13 Tests, 81 ODIs and 57 T20s for the national side, and the 27-year-old opener believes that time is on his side as he attempts to get back into the Pakistan team. “I’m confident that I can come back into the Pakistan team. This one thing that one shouldn’t forget and I have learned that from a young age.”

Sachin, an inspirational figure to cricketers

While Shehzad continues to work on his discipline as well as his form to represent the Pakistani side again, plaudits must be given to Tendulkar for extending the moral support to the troubled opener. A true legend of the game, Sachin has always been an inspiration to younger cricketers irrespective of nationality and this time the veteran has proven to be no exception.
