Indian captain and run-machine Virat Kohli has been endorsed for Bharat Ratna by the All India Game Federation (AIGF). The All India Game Federation has written a letter to Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India for the same.
Virat Kohli has been exceptional and his spellbinding form and captaincy has been one reason why India has become one of the most dominant cricketing nations in the world.
The 30-year old has performed exquisitely across all formats of the game. Collectively, in all the formats, he has amassed 18500 runs, having an average of over 50 in both tests and one-day cricket. He also recently crossed the 10000-run mark in ODIs, becoming the fastest batsman to do so.
As quoted by India TV, the letter to the Prime Minister read, “Cricket is one of the most loved sports in India and Virat Kohli has captured the hearts & minds of the billions with his scintillating performances over the past years. AIGF only believes that it is only befitting that his efforts in enhancing India’s stature and image in the global sporting arena are adequately recognized by bestowing the honour of Bharat Ratna”.
Honoring Kohli with the country’s highest civilian award will only mean awarding talent, merit, and had work”, it further said.
Virat Kohli – The captain
Virat Kohli, the captain is on the verge of turning around India’s fortunes in the overseas Test series. Although, India lost both the series this year in South Africa and England, their competitiveness and their “never say die attitude” was something which was very noteworthy. The “never say die attitude” were signs of India’s drastic improvement in overseas where otherwise their record had been deplorable and known for surrendering meekly.
India tour of Australia in a month’s time where they stand a real chance of creating history by winning their maiden Test series in Australia against a vulnerable Australian team. Kohli in his previous visit to the country in 2014-15 Test series, made a mind-boggling 692 runs in four matches, however, Australia took the series by 2-0.
