India is currently facing England in a five-match Test series which currently stands leveled at 1-1. However, there have been few names in the Indian batting setup who have been constantly failing to get going for some time now and former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer opened up on one such name. Jaffer put forward his opinion on India’s Test deputy Ajinkya Rahane and referred to him as a ‘disappointment’ in the series so far.
It has to be noted that Rahane hasn’t been able to rise on the occasion so far and is failing to get crucial runs. He has scored a total of 95 runs in three Tests so far and Jaffer criticized his tendency of getting dismissed softly. As he has performed consistently on the away tours, a lot is being expected from him in this high-profile series.
“Ajinkya Rahane has been a disappointment. You know, he’s been getting out through soft dismissals, mostly caught behind. A player of his quality shouldn’t do that because the batting lineup depends a lot on him. He needs to fire if he gets another Test. On away tours, he’s been a very consistent player, he’s put up huge scores in Australia, England, and South Africa. He needs to fire because the nets two Tests are very, very vital,” said Jaffer on his YouTube Channel.
Wasim Jaffer put forth his opinions on Rohit Sharma and Pujara
Jaffer also put forth his opinion on Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara. The former cricketer said that Sharma has been looking set so far and even batted well in the Leeds Test where he just got unlucky. On the other hand, Pujara gained back his lost form at Headingley and played a terrific innings of 91 runs. Jaffer believes that these two batsmen should keep going the same way.
“Rohit batted really well. He looked set to score a hundred but unfortunately, he got out due to the umpire’s call. Pujara batted magnificently. He got out on 91 on the morning of the 4th day but he batted really well till then. He looked in a very positive mindset,” added Jaffer.
