Ajit Agarkar all praise for Khaleel Ahmed after successful outing in Mumbai
The youngster returned with figures of 3/13 in the five overs that he bowled in the match.
Team India registered a thumping win over the Windies in the recently concluded fourth ODI in Mumbai. All the talks have been around the batsmen who made merry in the game. However, one bowler managed to grab quite some attention with his impressive numbers on the day – Khaleel Ahmed. The youngster returned with figures of 3/13 in the five overs that he bowled in the match.
Khaleel ran through the Windies middle order in the game. He accounted for the dismissals of Marlon Samuels, Shimron Hetmyer, and Rovman Powell. He bowled a maiden during his spell as well. The highlight of the spell was his ability to shape the ball both ways. The conditions in Mumbai have always had something for the bowlers under lights. And to extract that advantage requires some skill. Khaleel Ahmed did just that.
His performance in the match has fetched him praises from many big names. Former Indian cricketer Ajit Agarkar is one of many who looked mighty pleased with the efforts of Khaleel. In a post-match show on ESPNcricinfo, Ajit Agarkar noted that Khaleel did exceptionally well to shape the ball both ways in the game. He remarked that the youngster can go a long way if he can continue doing the same in the days to come.
“Today was a nice to bowl. Windies were 3 down at that point and he got the ball to shape, which would have given him confidence. He got the length right more often than not – beat the bat and cut the batsman through the shot,” cited Ajit Agarkar. “So, some good signs we saw there. Hopefully, that gives him a lot more confidence,” he added further.
Not bowling his complete quota of overs
Former Windies cricketer Phil Simmons looked surprised to see that Khaleel Ahmed only bowled 5 overs in the match. Simmons, on a lighter note, joked that not many bowlers would have stopped bowling in the middle of a spell as good as that. Simmons also praised Khaleel for bowling probing lines in the match.
