Ajit Agarkar slams Justin Langer for equating Kohli’s celebration with tampering scandal
"I am not sure it is the right thing to do."
India and Australia are currently taking part in the first of the four Tests at the renowned Adelaide Oval. Even as the match hasn’t been short of entertainment, it already has had its fair share of controversies. After India, led by Virat Kohli, were bowled out for 250, the Indian bowlers came out firing on all cylinders. Ishant Sharma rattled Aaron Finch’s woodwork in the very first over.
Thereafter, the Indian skipper turned up with a hostile celebration, something which didn’t please Justin Langer, Australia’s head coach by any means. He lashed out at the 30-year-old and mentioned that had any Australian player would’ve done it, he would have been branded as a ‘worst bloke’ following the ball-tampering scandal which took place earlier this year in South Africa.
That’s the way he is
Langer also went on to remark that Kohli may have crossed the proverbial line. In the meantime, former Indian cricketer Ajit Agarkar was highly dissatisfied with Langer’s outrageous comments. Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, the retired bowler told that the former Aussie batsman shouldn’t have drawn parallels of Kohli’s celebration with the tampering issue at Newlands in Cape Town.
“I sometime feel Virat Kohli goes over the top (with the celebrations), but he is consistent with it. That’s the way he is; it is up to match officials to take the call whether it is over the top or not – I understand (Langer’s comments) with the reputation Australia trying to mend after what happened in South Africa, but to equate it with Virat (celebration), I am not sure it is the right thing to do,” Agarkar mentioned.
Kohli is someone, who hardly curb his natural instincts. He prefers to express himself, but at times tends to overdo it and subsequently gets slammed for the behaviour. For the time being, his focus would be to help India win the opening Test against Tim Paine and Co.
