Here's the reason why Sri Lankan players opted to leave the field

For a long time now, people have been suggesting that the city of Delhi is inhaling the “Slow Poison”, which will lead to malicious repercussions. Amidst this chaotic situation, there were a lot of people suggesting the National capital should not be playing hosts to International events, which doesn’t just cause a lot more inconvenience to the public, but also has an impact on the tourism reputation.

The 3rd Test match between India and Sri Lanka is being conducted at the Feroz Shah Kotla and as many expected, the poor air quality has had a significant impact on the players, especially the visitor players. It never gets easy for cricketers or any other athletes in such situations as their lungs already would be burning.

Four players were vomiting: Lankan spokesperson

A Sri Lankan spokesperson has suggested that four of their players were vomiting unable to tolerate the extreme pollution levels in Delhi. They were running short of substitute fielders as well with Suranga Lakmal, Lahiru Gamage, and Samarawickrama were off the field and this induced an angry Virat Kohli to declare the innings.

“Four players were vomiting. A couple of players were struggling to breathe. With Sadeera Samarawickrama too unable to take the field due to mild concussions, we were running short of substitute fielders and were explaining our problems to the match officials,” said a Lankan spokesperson as quoted by Cricbuzz.

The Indian fast bowlers reciprocated in style after declaration as they took two early wickets and kept the Lankans on the backfoot. There were some animated scenes when Kohli was declaring the innings as Niroshan Dickwella sarcastically applauded the Indian skipper’s decision, which didn’t go down well with the fans.

Nevertheless, this game seems like a one-way traffic with India piling up 537 runs and more three days left. The bowlers are off to a terrific start as well, which puts India very much in the driver’s seat.
