Known as the Chef by his teammates, Cook has a total of 32 centuries in Test cricket. Calling him a role model for the youngsters in Essex, McGrath described his stature in the team.

“It’s great news that Cooky has committed his future to the Club. He’s one of the best batsmen in the world and he’s so important for us both on and off the pitch. He’s a great person to have around the Club and is a great role model for the young players coming through. He also has the ability to change a game with his batting and that’s something everyone wants in their team.”

The 33-year-old will be playing his final Test at Oval against India. The fifth Test will not only mark the end of a series but also a glorious career. As for the English fans, they can still relish the opportunity of watching Cook bat in County cricket after his international retirement.
