Alastair Cook is thinking about retirement, Broad not up to it feels Mitchell Johnson

Australian bowlers have got the better of the English batsmen ever since the first Test as the hosts now have an unassailable lead of 3-0. At the other end, English bowlers have failed to get rid of a number of Australian batsmen including the mighty Steve Smith who scored a brilliant double ton in the 3rd Ashes at the WACA.

A former Australian bowler Mitchell Johnson who had thrown some thunderbolts at the English batsmen during the 2013-14 Ashes where England lost 5-0. Johnson who was speaking after his training season with BBL champion Perth Scorchers said that he thinks England will have to tinker their side going for the 4th Test of the Ashes.

“Going to the next Test I think England will have to think about changes,” said Johnson. He also questioned if the senior English players are up to the level of their opponents. “I’m not sure if  Stuart Broad is up to it at the moment. There will be some question marks around him, as a senior player,” he added.

Cook has been thinking

He said that the English opener Cook must be thinking about retirement as his performance has been not up to the mark in the first 3 Ashes Tests. He also felt that having failed to keep the Ashes Urn at the WACA, Cook might bat bit freely and score some runs. The former skipper has managed to score 83 runs in the three games this Ashes.

“Alastair Cook is someone who I think has been thinking about retirement. I just wonder now with the scoreline being 3-0 whether that will take a bit of pressure off him and he’ll just go out there and score runs. I’m not sure. I think the scars are there from the last series,” said Johnson who had 37 victims during the 2013-14 Ashes.

He also said that he would love to see the repeat of 5-0 scoreline this Ashes. He said if the opponent is England, he doesn’t want the close games but wishes to see them getting thumped.
