Alastair Cook terms England’s batting line-up as a ‘dangerous’ one
"Any one of the top eight can score that match-winning hundred."
England are currently International Cricket Council’s (ICC) number-one ranked ODI team. The World Cup 2015 where they got eliminated following their defeat against Bangladesh, came as a reality check for the Three Lions. They revamped their entire side and are now a brute force to reckon with. They would next be playing the 2019 edition of the mega-event, starting May 30.
The Brits are scheduled to play their first match against South Africa on the first day at the Kennington Oval in London. In the meantime, former English cricketer, Alastair Cook reckons that the Poms have the strength in their squad. Cook said that Alex Hales, who has been out of the team, can step up and that can always add to the strength of the national team.
“They’re going to take the same batting line-up, with Hales as replacement – and then it’s a case of who’s out of form. Hales is a brilliant one-day player and he can’t get in this side at the moment but, if there’s an injury or someone’s out of form, for him to step up shows the strength in depth of this squad,” Cook was quoted as saying in Sky Sports News.
It’s an exciting and dangerous batting line-up
Furthermore, Cook didn’t mince any words in saying that England, captained by Eoin Morgan, have a strong batting order with their top seven to eight batsman having the ability to be match-winners on their day. “It’s such an exciting batting line-up, held together by Joe Root – the glue, Mr Consistent – coming in at No 3 and all the fireworks happen around him.
Any one of the top eight can score that match-winning hundred off 70 or 80 balls, which changes the game, and that’s why it’s such an exciting team to watch. With Roy at the top of the order and Jonny Bairstow and Hales waiting, it’s an exciting and dangerous batting line-up,” Cook who retired from international cricket last year,” he added.
England are currently playing the five-match ODI series against the Windies after losing the three-match Test series 2-1 with defeats in the first two games.
