All the hardwork that I have put in all these years have finally yielded results this year: Axar Patel
Patel has five five-fers in his first five Tests alongside a few handy knocks with the bat.
Axar Patel has had a dream 2021 so far as the all-rounder has made a name for himself in world cricket. Making his Test debut against England earlier this year, the left-arm spinner made a mark straightaway with his venomous spells. He continued his dream run in the ongoing Test series against New Zealand as well.
Having scalped a five-wicket haul in the first Test, the southpaw smashed his maiden Test fifty in the second game and backed it up a quick-fire 41. As far as his numbers are concerned, the all-rounder has five five-fers in his first five Tests alongside a few handy knocks with the bat. Axar wouldn’t have hoped for a better start to his Test career.
My endeavour is to keep improving: Axar Patel
Speaking of the same, Axar said delivering in whites for India was his dream. “Actually, this has been my dream year you can say. The way I bowled in England series and now how the New Zealand series panned out, in between there was IPL so I can say that this has really been a good year for me personally,” Axar, who had scores of 52 and 41 not out in this Test, said after third day’s play.
“My endeavour is to keep improving and look at areas where I need to get better. All the hardwork that I have put in all these years have finally yielded results this year. The batting coach (Vicky Rathour) and team management has faith in my batting abilities, and they have always told me that ‘you can do it’. Earlier, when I got chances, I couldnt convert my starts but this time when I got chances, I was able to convert,” he added.
Although Axar have proved his mettle as a three-dimensional player, he’s likely to warm the benches in the upcoming Test series against South Africa. The left-arm spinner is also aware of the same.
“Team management discusses with us and they tell us whether we fit in team combination or not. Whatever is priority for team is done and we just tell ourselves that we should focus on our routines and how we can keep improving,” the 27-year-old said further.
