'All three are equally good' - MSK Prasad analyses captaincy styles of MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma
MSK Prasad not surprisingly pointed out that MS Dhoni is always calm and cool.
MSK Prasad’s tenure as the chief selector witnessed a smooth transition as Virat Kohli took over the captaincy reins across all formats from MS Dhoni who stepped down from the helm in January 2017. Kohli had already led the Indian team for two years in Tests until then. Moreover, even Rohit Sharma has led the team in the ODIs and T20Is handful of times whenever Kohli has been rested.
Prasad has opined over the captaincy styles of the trio now and feels all the three players are completely different when it comes to leading the team. However, he feels that all of them are equally good at their job. Over the years, India has done consistently well across all the formats and the baton passing from Dhoni to Kohli and Rohit has done exceptionally well.
“If you look at fundamental styles, leadership has got so many different styles, these three are three different guys and I am sure all three are equally good,” MSK Prasad said in an interview to Fancode.
Virat Kohli is very clear in his mind, feels MSK Prasad
Speaking about MS Dhoni as captain, MSK Prasad not surprisingly pointed out that the veteran cricketer is always calm and no many understand his plans until it is executed. He felt that Virat Kohli is very clear in his mind what to expect from his players and Rohit Sharma thinks from the players’ perspective while leading the team.
“They are three guys who have three different styles. Mahi is absolutely cool, you never know what is there in his mind until it is executed, he’s very very cool and very very accommodative whereas Virat is pretty clear. He’s at you all the time, he’s very clear in his mind what he wants.
“If you are talking about Rohit, he’s more of an accommodative sort of a guy. He definitely has that empathy towards other players and he thinks from their hats,” the 45-year-old added. Interestingly, irrespective of their different captaincy styles, team India’s graph has been going up over the years across all the formats consistently which is more important.
