All-time ODI XI featuring 11 captains
Now, who would be the captain of this list?
2. Sourav Ganguly
“Movie on Sachin Tendulkar showed the rise of Sachin. Movie on Saurav Ganguly will show rise and rise of India.” These words by former Indian opener Virender Sehwag are enough to explain Ganguly’s contribution to Indian cricket. He was a charismatic leader and a solid batsman who took the Men in Blue to many memorable triumphs.
With his fierce character and self-belief, Ganguly formed a side that was daunting at home and more than competitive overseas. Hailed as the ‘God of off-side,’ the left-handed batsman also established a formidable opening pair which Sachin Tendulkar and the duo gave sleepless nights to many potent bowling line-ups.
One of the highlights of Ganguly’s captaincy career was India reaching the 2003 World Cup finals, where they lost to Australia. In total, the Kolkata-born cricketer led India in 149 ODIs and took them to 76 wins. As of now, Ganguly is the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
