Allan Border vouches for removal of coin toss in Tests
Border also has voiced concerns regarding the home advantage prevailing in cricket today.

Former Australia skipper Allan Border has reinforced the claims of having ‘no toss’ in Test matches. In recent times, one has witnessed the importance of winning the toss and the home team has almost always gone on to win. With conditions being poles apart when it comes to playing Test match cricket, many good sides have been hammered when it comes to losing matches in overseas conditions.
Border, who has been one of the most successful captains for the Australian cricket team. However, in recent times with Steve Smith and David Warner on receiving ends of bans, the Aussies have been in a bit of a rut, so to speak. Speaking about the same, Border reiterated that he was in the camp for letting the visiting side decide upon what needs to be done and that the toss should ideally not play such an important role in proceedings.
“I’m in the camp for no toss and letting the visiting side decide,” Border told foxsports.com.au. “Traditionally it shouldn’t play such an important role in the game but it has become that way.
‘Don’t need to fiddle around with Test cricket too much’
With pink-ball cricket making a foray into the Test scene, it is clear that Test cricket and it’s subsequent publicity is in jeopardy. Border, however, believes that one does not need to mess around with Test cricket as much as one thinks. He, however, stated that things need to be tried first before implementing them.
“I don’t think we need to fiddle around with Test cricket too much but it has become an issue because all visiting sides feel like they get stitched up by pitch preparation.
“Of course, the only way to do these things is to try them first.”
