An Insight into the McCullum Mania
An Insight into the McCullum Mania: A lot has been spoken, written, discussed and discovered about the art of captaining a cricket team but this aspect of the game never seizes to engage cricket fans and experts alike. Often captains emerge as the distinguishing force on a cricket field and their leadership ends up as the reason for victory and defeat.
Nowadays, a phenomenon is being witnessed by the cricket world, an unprecedented sight recurs on a cricket field every time Brendon McCullum the New Zealand skipper crosses the boundary rope.
At the height of his powers McCullum the captain is imaginative, futuristic and an extreme enigma.
The Cricket World Cup 2015 saw a unique brand of ODI cricket, it was all attack. Incisive and impactful to say the least, from annihilating England to scraping through the Aussies (the eventual winners) New Zealand managed to play as well as they ever have in a world cup, in the process qualifying for their first final at the World Cups.
An Insight;
Baz to the opposition:
“If you want to beat us, better match our intent, our aggression and our cohesiveness.”
He always keeps the game moving forward backs his players, backs his instincts and just plays to the fullest of his abilities and with all the love and passion.
Emergence of McCullum the leader has rekindled New Zealand cricket and has ignited a million hopes of a rugby obsessed nation which now is ready to accept and cherish cricket.
New Zealand’s World Cup 2015 campaign will go down into cricketing folklore as one of the most dominating and entertaining, the main reason being the captain.
The McCullum way:
It is simple, the McCullum way is to pick wickets, keep picking wickets and finish the match, attacking field settings with equally able bowlers with the penetrative mindset pegging back the opposition with constant scrutiny of their techniques and temperament all this with a everlasting smile and grounded conduct both on and off the field.
The Mindset:
He breeds positivity, his attitude rubs on to the team and it shows; it shows on the field that this New Zealand team is a group of 11 cricketers that play the same way, that is, with vigour and intent. This is very different from the teams of the past which were always considered to be talented and punched above their weight in ICC tournaments; whereas this McCullum led New Zealand is fearless and always expected to outplay opponents, especially on home soil.
McCullum, the Batsman:
Baz the batsman opening the batting for the Kiwis in the shorter formats have taken the game to a new unforeseen level, he is full of bravado, risks and killing intent, nowadays after the new field restriction rules in ODIs, teams prefer to have a decent start set up a platform and then launch into the bowling in the last 15 overs, but Baz (as he is popularly known) believes in attacking from ball one making the bowlers look toothless, like bowling machines, feeding him deliveries to just keep smashing them out of the park. The World Cup final saw him play and miss first two deliveries attempting booming drives against the best bowler Mitchell Starc and losing his stumps to the third ball playing the same kind of stroke again. But, this exactly is McCullum for you there is no looking back, no stopping him.
The Fielder:
Attack the ball, pounce on it fight for every run and take all catches, even half chances. McCullum fields with the same attitude like he plays his cricket, he right now is fielding like a dream, from a permanent wicket keeper to an outstanding fielder inside the ring and the outfield, his fielding has only propelled him towards becoming a complete cricketer, a leader and most importantly a team man.
A round up:
The emergence of McCullum and the brand of cricket that he plays have only generated a lot of excitement and we hope he keeps continuing the same in future and entertains the cricket fans with his skills and attitude.
