An Open letter to Yuvraj Singh from a die hard fan:

Dear Yuvi,

It would be shameful if I take the audacity of introducing you as even the new born kids of India are quite much aware of the Brave Tiger of India, Yuvraj Singh. You were simply the man who defined the word courage. You made it clear that courage is something which is not the absence of fear but rather the conquest of fear. A man who brought smiles to millions ignoring his own deadly disease of cancer can be no lesser than a super hero.

Glancing back to 2000, you were so desperate to make a spot into the Indian team that you quite unhesitatingly agreed on to open the innings for India when the then skipper, Sourav Ganguly asked for the same on a light note. But that is Yuvraj Singh, a person who could readily take up challenges and dispatch them out of the park just as the way he is known to clear the ropes with a flick of the wrists. You made a sound introduction to international Cricket by striking in 85 runs in the very first innings of your international career against the greatest bowling line up of Australia back in the ICC Knockout, 2000.

Whenever Indian team raised the panic button, the antidote in the name of Yuvraj Singh lightened things up quite easily and in the most prolific way possible. To draw instances of the same, the first thing that comes up into one’s mind is the final of the 2002 Natwest Trophy against England. When thousands of Indians switched off their television sets in despair, you made them switch it on again and it was you alongside Mohammad Kaif who scripted India’s cause for a historic win at Lord’s.

Despite your glamorous batting, one can’t simply ignore the master class which you possessed on the fielding. You were probably the one who redefined fielding efforts by an Indian with your glamorous instincts on the field and your spotless accuracy in aiming at the stumps from even the boundary line.

You contributed well for the team in the 2003 World Cup and also one cannot forget about your first test century in Pakistan in 2004. You made things easy and steady for the team and also pin pointed of the fact that one can be successful with a casual yet steady approach.

Focusing onto the timeline, you were India’s pivotal and instrumental character in the middle order of the batting line up in the past decade. On a number of occasions, your cameos at the death overs proved more than fruitful for the team. Coming into further ahead, I would like to mention the words, ‘2007 WORLD T20’ and instantaneously we all can draw the image of you swaggering Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over. Perhaps, you taught the world a lesson about what could happen if one fires against an Indian verbally!

Yuvraj Singh was the name which the oppositions feared as he was capable of diminishing and destroying the opposition ploys and plans in a matter of a few deliveries. But, since life is much like a giant wheel, one has to traverse through the bottom phases too. Prior to the World Cup of 2011, a lot was talked about your form and some even wanted you to be out of the team. But the team management retained faith upon you and you made it clear that how great a decision was it on the night of 2nd April, 2011 when you walked to the Presentation Arena to collect the trophy for ‘Player of the Tournament’.

You lived up and justified a million hopes and gave our generation a scope to witness of the fact that how it feels like to be a member of a World Cup winning nation! I thank you for that from the core of my heart. But the path to victory is not that smooth and is associated with numerous pits and stones.

You were inflicted from cancer and tremors were raised among your fans and your dear ones but we knew that you would again beat the hell out of the disease and fight death like a boss to get back to life. And as expected, like one of the bravest of the humans, Yuvraj Singh did manage to set yet another milestone by hitting cancer out of the park and getting back to life.

To me, you are an inspiration, a fire which enlightens of the fact that despite facing the hardest of the hardships in life, you found a way to conquer success and you were brave at times when one could barely hope for anything good to happen. You have been a catalyst for me, an example of how to handle and conquer things and situations during the hardest of the times and finally if YOUvi CAN, then why can’t WE! Yes, I mean, YOUWECAN!

Yours Sincerely,

A Die Hard Yuvi Fan.
