Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) have announced their own version of T20 league following the immense success of Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL). ACA is all set to launch their ambitious project Andhra Premier League (APL) in association with Redmoon Creative Private Limited.
Andhra Pradesh is the third state to initiate their own T20 league as Tamil Nadu and Karnataka already host domestic T20 tournaments. Karnataka Premier League kicked off last week where the young and talented cricketers from Karnataka compete for the ultimate glory. Similarly, the cricketing talent from Andhra will play in the league and it only the cricketers affiliated with the association will take part.
The objective is to tap talent from the rural areas and turn them into better players. The catchline of the tournament is finalised as ‘Your Time is Now’ which seems true as it will give a solid platform to the cricketers to showcase their talent on the big stage. The only focus of this league is to hunt local heroes.
Six teams will battle it out for the glory
The APL comprises of six franchise based teams namely Bezawada Baadshahs, Godavari Jaguars, Guntur Mirchis, Kadapa Kings, Nellore Lions and Vizag Whales. The teams will fight it out in a month long tournament and the inaugural edition will be played in December 2017 and January 2018.
The tournament brochure says, “Our aim is to spark the feelings and taste of the game in everyone’s life. Life is there to be enjoyed and we endeavour to provide new experiences that excite the senses and inspire all ages to feel the game.” The ACA has signed an agreement with Redmoon Creative and all the logistics will be handled by them.
“All the operational and organising activities like franchise management and brand sponsorship etc. have been assigned to Rajesh Mandhapati, MD, Redmoon Creative Private Limited to conduct the said Andhra Premier League (APL),” a source was quoted by TOI as saying.
