Andhra Pradesh Cricket Association announce their own T20 league
"The League would be a great source of entertainment,"- ACA president.
After the success of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) and Mumbai T20 league, the Andhra Cricket Association has announced the launch of the Andhra T20 League in June this year. It will serve as a great opportunity to more than 100 cricketers from the southern state to play competitive cricket and also prepare themselves for trials of bigger tournaments.
Led by Hanuman Vihari, Andhra’s domestic team has never won any of the major domestic competitions like the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy or the Irani Cup. The introduction of the franchise T20 league may help them do better in competitions in the domestic circuit.
“We have been in the forefront of ushering in change across the State of Andhra Pradesh by developing high-quality infrastructure over the past few years. Now is the time to enable the top rung players to experience the intensity of T20 cricket and the fans in six cities the joy of watching franchise-based cricket matches,” GVK Ranga Raju, ACA President was quoted as saying on Inside Sports from a press release.
Cities of Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Godavari, Chittoor, Kadapa and Anantapur will be having their own teams. “There has been a great deal of interest from a wide range of Andhra business houses, especially with the matches being broadcast live,” Raju mentioned.
No match will clash with Team India’s match in the World Cup
Hanuma Vihari, Karn Sharma, Ricky Bhui, KS Bharath, B Ayyappa and KV Sashikanth are some of the famous cricketers from the state and it will be a great learning experience for the other cricketers to rub shoulders with them. Also, the league will not be played on any day when India are scheduled to play a game in the World Cup.
“From the spectators’ perspective, the League would be a great source of entertainment. ACA will create a wonderful atmosphere in which fans can watch the contests unfold. We have taken care to schedule the League games on days on which India is not playing in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019,” the ACA President added.
