Sri Lanka have been tested to the bits by the underdogs Bangladesh. Having thumped the latter by 259 runs in the first Test, they succumbed to an embarrassing 4 wicket defeat in the Colombo Test due to poor show by the batters. In the midst of some poor batting performance, there was some good news for the Sri Lanka fans. Angelo Mathews, the Captain of the Lankans and one of their star players was injured during the tour of South Africa in January.

He injured one of the tendons and looks to have taken a bit longer to recover than it showed. Mathews said that as it is his tendon that is injured the doctor suggested that more rest and time is required for it to heal. The tendon of the right hamstring was injured and if it was the muscle he would be on the field by now but tendons take longer to heal.

The Sri Lankan was talking to Sunday Times when he told the same. He said, “It’s the tendon of my right hamstring which was injured in South Africa. Rather than a muscle, doctors say that it takes longer to heal and get back to normal.”

The Chairman of Selectors Sanath Jayasuriya, however, confirmed that Angelo Mathews is now fit and will be back in the squad to play for his country. During the stint as a commentator on the fourth day, the former explosive batsman of Sri Lanka revealed that he will be back for the three-match One-Day International (ODI) series against the Bangladesh.

This cheered up the dull commentary box a bit as Sri Lanka were losing wickets during the time. The coming back of Angelo will help the confidence of this young Sri Lankan team who recently beat Australians in a T20I series in their own backyard.

Angelo will also be itching to make a comeback after being sidelined for the most important period of the season.
