Angry Kings XI Punjab fans suggest a name change after announcing Ravi Ashwin as captain
The Kings XI and the Chennai Super Kings have a well-documented rivalry in the context of the IPl.
The Indian Premier League auction saw some amazing moments last month. From the teenage Nepali spinner, Sandeep Lamichhane to Afghan sensation Rashid Khan made headlines as they were bought for a huge sum of money during the auction.
Ravi Ashwin who was an integral part of Chennai Super Kings over the years. Although during the IPL auction, the spinner was overlooked and was later bought by Kings XI Punjab in the auction. Interestingly, Punjab-born Harbhajan Singh who played a massive role in Mumbai Indians’ success in the IPL over the years was bought by Ashwin’s previous team Chennai Super Kings. Fans across the country were amused how a Chennai-born player will be playing for Punjab and a Punjab-born player will represent Chennai in the IPL.
On Monday, Virender Sehwag the mentor of Kings XI Punjab announced that Ashwin will be leading the Kings XI side in the 11th edition of the IPL. A number of fans took social media to express their views on the announcement.
Angry fans suggest the franchise to change their name
The former India opener on the facebook page of Kings XI Punjab revealed that It will be Ashwin who will lead the side which includes southpaw Yuvraj Singh. With Yuvraj, a local player in the side, a number of franchise fans expected that It will be Yuvraj who will get the opportunity to lead the side.
Yuvraj has led the side in the inaugural tournament where he took the side in the semifinals. Kings XI is one of the few sides who has failed to win the tournament. After the announcement, few angry fans suggested that the franchise should change their name to Kings XI Madras instead of Kings XI Punjab.
One of the fans felt that they should’ve given the responsibility of captaincy to Yuvraj Singh as he suggested that the franchise has cheated Yuvraj through the captaincy snub.
