Anil Kumble comes out in support of Sunil Chhetri and the Indian football team
The former Indian cricket team coach has been the latest to come out in support of Chhetri's plea.
Former Indian cricket team coach Anil Kumble has come out in support of Sunil Chhetri and the Indian football team as they face-off against Kenya in what will be the skipper’s 100th international match. Chhetri is only the second Indian footballer to be the beneficiary of playing 100 international matches while his goal tally has surpassed several others who play professionally in Europe and South America.
As of 2016 and 2017, Anil Kumble was heavily in the news due to the fact that he had been named Indian coach. However, controversy prevailed as a rift between Kumble and Kohli came to light and the former India skipper had to step down from his post and eventually say ‘no’ a contract extension. Ravi Shastri returned as the head coach and now, it would seem as though the Indian cricket team is indeed beginning to perform as ruthlessly as they once did.
Recently, Sunil Chhetri had shared a video on his social media channels pleading with the general Indian public to throng the stadium and watch the Indian football team in action. The message has been resonated by the biggest of names in Indian cricket, something that usually does not happen under normal circumstances.
The likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and even tennis sensation Sania Mirza had gone ahead and attended to Chhetri by promoting the football team. Krunal Pandya, the Mumbai Indians all-rounder also had done his bit by promoting the team in his own way.
Here is what Kumble had to say
Kumble’s tweet read: “The Indian football team needs all the support possible, and they’ve been working very hard to reach where they are now. Show up in numbers at the game tonight and make them proud! Good luck on your 100th international match @chetrisunil11.”
