Anmolpreet Singh, the Punjab cricketer, has been picked up by the selectors for the warm-up game against Sri Lanka next week. He has been awarded for his consistent show with the bat in the ongoing season of Ranji Trophy. The youngster is the third-highest run-getter so far with 430 runs in three innings of three matches. An injury to Naman Ojha has got him a place in the Board President’s XI for a two-day warm-up match in Kolkata which will embark the tour of Sri Lanka.
The 19-year-old is playing his debut season and has already racked up runs to impress the selectors. So far he has boasted the scores of 50,113 and 267 in the three innings he has played. He notched up a half-century in his debut game against Himachal Pradesh and since then hasn’t looked back. His 267 against Chhattisgarh in Raipur not only helped him but also his Punjab who could manage to earn points after an outright victory and also topped the group D.
I would like to score more in Ranji
Anmolpreet Singh was happy after his selection and expressed that he would like to score more and more runs in Ranji Trophy. “It was good to get a half-century on debut. However, I was disappointed to lose the berth in the second game against Vidarbha. I was told to play in the CK Nayudu Trophy against Himachal. I wanted to score a big knock and get back my spot in the senior team for Ranji Trophy,” he said as quoted by Hindustan times.
“I kept focus and scored a double century against Himachal and was happy to be included against Goa. I scored a century and we won with a bonus point. The job is half done as I would like to score more big knocks in Ranji Trophy,” added the cricketer who scored 267 runs off just 262 deliveries in the recently concluded game. He idolizes Virat Kohli and was over the moon when he met the Indian captain during a BCCI function a few years back.
“I was in good form last season too and was expecting a call to the senior team. It happened this season and with the team also winning, I am in high spirits. I have been encouraged by captain Jiwanjot Singh, Bhajji paaji (Harbhajan Singh) and Yuvi paaji (Yuvraj Singh). I need to play well in the next two leagues matches,” he concluded.
