Anurag Thakur offers condolences to U-23 cricketer who passed away
BCCI president Anurag Thakur offered his condolences to Under-23 cricketer Himachal Pradesh cricketer Vikrant Kumar who died in a car accident, four days after celebrating his 23rd birthday.
“It is extremely sad to learned about the sudden tragic death of Vikrant. He was a very bright boy and would have definitely made HPCA and the entire state of Himachal proud,” said Thakur, who is also the president of Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association.
“My heartfelt condolence to the family and I wish them the strength to brave this difficult time. May Vikrant’s soul rest in peace,” he said.
The HPCA expressed its grief through a tweet.

An off-spinner and a right-hand batsman, Vikrant was a known name in the HP cricketing circles. He made his debut for Himachal Pradesh Under-15 in the 2007-08 Polly Umrigar Trophy and has since then given impressive performances at various age group levels. He made 34 and took five wickets on his senior debut against Jammu & Kashmir, and ended the tournament with 144 runs and six wickets.
He was also a part of the Himachal Pradesh representative side for the first time in 2014-15 when he played in the pre-season JP Atray Memorial Cricket Tournament in Punjab.
That same season, he played in the Under-23 CK Nayudu Trophy where his 509 runs at 56.55, which included two centuries and three fifties, played a big role in Himachal Pradesh’s march to the final.
