Approaching milestones for South African players

The Proteas have not had a very good 2015 as a limited overs team though they fared poorly in the longest format conceding their 9-year unbeaten overseas record to India and touched another low losing the Boxing Day Test to England but as the team is under transition and are looking to find a settled combination. Here we enlist some of the South African players and the milestones they are approaching. 1. AB de Villiers: AB de Villiers. (Photo Source: BCCI) A batsman with the ability to hit some breathtaking shots and entertain the crowds in a majestic fashion, AB de Villiers is widely considered as one of the greatest cricketers of all time. His skill and temperament are quite pleasing for the eyes. Being an established cricketer of the Proteas unit, he also has the most number of milestones waiting to be achieved. – He is 50 runs short of 8000 Test runs. – One more fifty and he will have the second highest number of half centuries by a South African after Kallis in Tests. – AB de Villiers is 2 dismissals short of 100 dismissals in Tests. – He is 4 fifties short of 50 half centuries in ODIs – AB needs 2 catches to become the player with most catches in T20Is. 2. Hashim Amla: Hashim Amla. (© Getty Images) Considered as an elegant stokeplayer and gifted with some great temperament, Hashim Amla is also the captain for the Test team. A quiet man, there is no doubting Amla’s immense hunger for runs. He too is looking for ward to achieving some feats this year. – Amla is just 93 runs short of 7000 Test runs. – One more half century and he will have fifty 50+ scores in ODIs. 3. Morne Morkel: Morne Morkel. (© Getty Images) The one half of Proteas spearhead along with Steyn, Morkel has excelled in all forms and is a potent bowler. He has the pace and height good enough to trouble the best of batsmen. He has had some injuries to deal with but is extremely dedicated and a gifted player, his success is a proof of that. – Morkel needs 18 wickets to get to 250 Test wickets. – He is 5 wickets short of 50 T20I wickets. – The lanky pacer is just 5 wickets short of 450 wickets in international cricket. 4. Dale Steyn: (Photo Source: AFP) Regarded as one of the greatest bowlers to have played the game, Dale Steyn is fast and furious and has all tenets required to be a legendary pacer. Outright pace along with aggression, the danger he poses is much obvious. With more than 600 wickets and the speedster still showing some great intent, expect many more electrifying achievements to follow. – Steyn is 15 wickets short of becoming the most successful South African bowler in Test cricket. – He is 14 wickets short of 650 wickets in international cricket. 5. Faf du Plessis: Faf du Plessis. (© Getty Images) The T20I captain of South Africa, and a batting sensation for the Proteas, he has the ability to score runs all around the world. He is also quite active in the field and one of the core fielders for South Africa. He has been lauded by experts for keeping a calm head at tense situations. – Faf is 224 runs short of 3000 ODI runs. – He needs to grab 4 more catches to complete 50 catches in ODIs. – Faf du Plessis is 175 runs short of 1000 runs in T20Is. 6. Quinton de Kock: Quinton De Kock. (Photo Source: Associated Press) Quinton de Kock is a special talent that the Proteas have found in the top order. The wicketkeeper batsman is also the joint fastest to reach 1000 runs in ODIs. The team has shown a lot of confidence on him and he has repaid that faith with his recent performances during South Africa’s tour to India. – Quinton de Kock is 230 runs short of 3000 runs in international cricket. – He is just 7 runs short of 2000 ODI runs. 7. David Miller: David Miller. (Photo Source: AFP) David Miller is another attacking batsman who has an unorthodox style of batting. He enjoys to play a free range of strokes. He has time and again played some amazing knocks in the lower order for Proteas. – Miller needs 181 runs more to complete 2000 ODI runs. 8. JP Duminy: JP Duminy. (Photo Source: ICC) He has made his name for the Proteas as a potential star who could be a solid middle order batsman. Along with being an energetic fielder, he has also been handy with spin bowling and helped chip in crucial breakthroughs for South Africa. He’s a strong player to contend with in the limited version. – Duminy needs 157 runs to get to 7000 runs in international cricket. – He is 63 runs short of 4000 ODI runs. 9. Imran Tahir: Imran Tahir. (Photo Source: BCCI) Tahir’s ability to spin the ball has provided greater versatility to the South African bowling attack. He has been the frontline spinner for the Proteas for some time now. His passion, his maverick spirit clearly define his hunger for the game. Tahir will look to take improve his game further in 2016 and achieve these milestones on the way. – He is 16 wickets short of 100 ODI wickets. – 1 more match and Imran Tahir will complete 50 ODI appearances for SA.
