Bangladesh left-arm spinner Arafat Sunny has been arrested by Bangladesh police in Dhaka on Sunday after he allegedly posted some sensitive photos of him and his girlfriend from a fake facebook account which seemed to have the emotions of his girlfriend. The lady had filed a complaint against Sunny for misusing their pictures and hurting her sentiments.

“She said Sunny opened up a fake Facebook account of hers and posted their personal photos, which she found offensive and defamatory,” Jamaluddin Mir, the local police chief was quoted as saying by the Cricbuzz. “We have arrested him and sent him to the court, seeking to take him into custody for five days for questioning.”

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury was reluctant to answer anything on the matter as he felt it was a bit of a personal issue. “It seems to be a personal matter. We don’t want to comment now. However, we are observing (the situation),” he said.

If the charges are proven true then Sunny can face imprisonment up to 14 years or a fine of 10 million taka (US$26,340). It is not the first incident where Bangladesh cricketers have been involved in shameful controversies. First, it was fast bowler Rubel Hossain who was charged with rape, though the charge was withdrawn later. Another fast bowler Shahadat Hossain was inculpated of torturing his maid.

Sunny was suspended from bowling in international cricket during the ICC World Twenty in India due to a suspect bowling action. He eventually cleared the test in the later part of 2016. The 30-year-old has appeared in 16 ODIs and 10 Tests for Bangladesh.

In the limited overs circuit, Sunny has bagged 24 wickets, while has scalped 12 wickets in his Test career. Despite pretty impressive averages in both formats of the game he hasn’t been a permanent member of the squad and his place in the side has remained in jeopardy.
