Argument on the cricket field ends in death
A 15-year-old student from Welipenna Uthumgama in Sri Lanka died last day afternoon after a clash between two groups who were playing a cricket match. The 15-year old was beaten by a 14-year old which ended up in the death of the former.
Seven children, aged between 12 and 15 including the victim Malinda Nandana Lakshan, were playing cricket in a paddy field and during the game an argument had ensued regarding a wide ball.
As a result of the argument, Lakshan, who was a Grade 10 student of Divitigala Maha Vidyalaya was attacked by another player with a wicket. He suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital and according to Welipenna Police, Lakshan died while receiving treatment at the Wettewe hospital in Matugama.
All the six children involved in the incident were taken into custody by Welipenna Police in connection with the attack.

This is not the first time that such a saddening event has come out, but from a cricket fan’s perspective, this is not a good news at all. In this particular case as well, it appears that all those affected were carried away in the heat of the moment and did not realise what this could lead to. In the end, it costs the life of a 15-year old.
A couple of years ago, we had heard about a father, who killed his son in front of horrified onlookers after a cricket training session at the oval in the small town of Tyabb, south-east of Melbourne. The father was shot by police at the scene and died in the hospital later on.
