Arjun Tendulkar gets a call up to the Mumbai U-19 squad
Arjun Tendulkar is a regular to the England cricket team's net sessions at Lord's.
17-year old Arjun Tendulkar has been named in Mumbai’s U-19 team, which will play the JY Lele All India Under-19 Invitational One Day Tournament in Baroda. Arjun has previously played at the U-14 and U-16 level as well. Son of legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, Arjun is a left-arm pacer and was seen bowling in the England team’s nets recently, ahead of the series against South Africa.
We also recently heard that the youngster has left a lasting impression on the mind of one of the English cricketer. Arjun bowled a yorker to English wicket-keeper and batsman Jonny Bairstow, as later the batsman was left hobbling. The youngster has been seen often bowling to international players at the nets. Arjun is a part of the Lord’s academy, and he is not the only one who got the lucky break of bowling to international stars. Many other skilled youngsters were seen having a go at the veterans. Arjun recently received bowling tips from former England bowling coach Ottis Gibson; while he was also seen having a word with Alastair Cook.
Taking big strides
“Arjun is a regular user of the facilities here,” a spokesman for the MCC, who usually arrange net bowlers ahead of international games at the ground, told ESPNcricinfo. “So he was invited to bowl against the England team in training today.”
Legendary Pakistan cricketer Wasim Akram also praised the promising cricketer, Arjun met him during the IPL, a few years back. “He is as enthusiastic as any 15 year old passionate about cricket in India and Pakistan would be,” Wasim told NDTV. “I gave him some general tips about fitness and wrist position. I told him how to bring the ball back into the right-hander. I told him to practice it for three months and then I promised him to teach how to take the ball away from right-handers.”
The tournament will begin on September 16 and will be played till September 23 at Baroda.
