Arjun Tendulkar named in the MCA Colts team
Arjun Tendulkar was earlier seen bowling at the Indian batsmen ahead of the India-New Zealand ODI series.
Arjun Tendulkar has been selected in Mumbai Cricket Association Colts team that will lock horns in the Police Invitation Sheild tournament from October 28 onwards. Pranav Menon will lead the 15-member MCA Colts team. Tendulkar Jr played in the U-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy that was held at the MIG Cricket Club and MCA’s BKC ground. In the first match against Baroda, the all-rounder scored mere four runs with the bat and bowled two overs as the sheet read 1/21.
In the next game against Saurashtra, he went wicketless bowling four overs for 0/40, after which he was dropped from the playing XI for the next two games against Gujarat and Maharashtra. Arjun recently bowled to the Indian national team, including skipper Virat Kohli at the nets in MCA in Mumbai ahead of their 3-match ODI series against New Zealand.
The 18-year old bowled to opener Shikhar Dhawan, Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane and Kedar Jadhav among others. He also received tips from bowling coach Bharat Arun and head coach Ravi Shastri. Arjun had earlier bowled to the Indian womens team ahead of their World Cup final at Lord’s, earlier this year. As a kid, Arjun used to often visit the nets along with his father Sachin Tendulkar, while he was playing.
Unfair to target Arjun: MCA official
“He was included in the Mumbai under-19 team after doing well in the trial matches. It’s unfair to target him just because he’s the son of a famous father,” an MCA official had told TOI recently, while justifying Arjun’s inclusion in the Mumbai Colts team.
The youngster was in the news after bowling a lethal yorker to England cricketer Jonny Bairstow at the England nets ahead of their Test match against West Indies. It will interesting to see how Arjun implements all these experience into his game and make a mark in the domestic circuit.
