The captain of the Afghanistan Cricket team across all the three formats of the game, Asghar Afghan is all set to start a new phase in his life. The middle-order batsman, hailing from Kabul, got engaged for the second time. This would be his second marriage and he already has five children from his first wife.

Asghar is one of the most successful Afghanistan captains of all time along with having decent records as a batsman in all three formats. Since his debut in 2009 against Scotland, Asghar has garnered 2356 runs in 111 ODI fixtures followed by 1248 runs in 69 T20I games. The right-hander also smashed 249 runs in the 4 Test matches he played in his career.

Sharing this big news, a senior journalist from Afghanistan tweeted, “Afghanistan national captain @MAsgharAfghan got engaged for the second time in his life. He has five childrens include a son from his first wife. Congratulations for the second inning skipper.”

Asghar Afghan was re-appointed as Afghanistan Captain in December 2019

Asghar Afghan is touted as one of the best leaders Afghanistan cricket has ever seen. He had taken the responsibility of captaining the team from Mohammad Nabi in February 2015 and since then there has been no looking back for the cricketer. He has led the national team in 56 ODIs and won 36 of them while losing just 21. They had also managed to tie a game against India in the Asia Cup in 2018.

However, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) had made things complicated and difficult for the team by sacking Afghan from the leadership in April 2019, just two months before the ICC World Cup 2019. Gulbadin Naib was named as the captain for the marquee event but the move backfired as the team failed to win even a single match.

Afghanistan had a disappointing campaign in the World Cup, losing all nine league matches and finished in last place. Naib led the team in a total of 12 ODI matches in which he managed to win two games and lost 10.

This was then followed by the board naming Wrist-spinner Rashid Khan as the captain in all the three formats with Asghar acting as his deputy.  However, in December 2019, ACB decided to mend things and chose Asghar to lead the team in all formats.
