Forgotten English cricketer Kevin Pietersen has been quite harsh on the English side this summer. English opener Alastair Cook is the most recent on his target list. Team England is currently playing for pride in the Boxing Day Ashes Test at the MCG against the Australians. They have already lost the Ashes this year after conceding a 0-3 lead in the five-match coveted series.

Now, with two more fixtures to go, including the ongoing game, England have to ensure they do not embarrass themselves with a 0-5 drubbing. Amidst this backdrop, the way Kevin Pietersen is hurling digs at the English side is certainly not going to boost their morale. Pietersen is one of the members of the commentary panel for the Ashes 2017-18.

Throughout the course of the series this season, KP has been posting updates, which more or less, have been insulting the English side. He had earlier mocked Joe Root for his captaincy after the Perth Test defeat. And now, he seems to have taken a subtle dig at the former English skipper Alastair Cook. Cook has had a forgettable time this season. He failed to muster any substantial knock in the first three Tests.

However, in the ongoing game, he mustered his first ton of the season. He is currently unbeaten after scoring a ton on the second day of the match. This is his 32nd Test ton. Certainly, the achievement has been great. But Kevin seems to be least impressed.

In his tweet, he took a subtle dig at Alastair Cook hinting that the latter is perhaps playing to save his place in the lineup. After the poor show, many expect that Alastair Cook could be the scapegoat after the series. KP also added that the concept of playing for pride makes no sense. A series lost is pride lost, according to KP.

Here is what Kevin Pietersen tweeted:

Never quite understood the, ‘playing for pride’ when a series is lost. More like, ‘playing for your place in the team because you’ve lost.’ There’s ZERO pride in winning after you’ve lost!tweeted Kevin Pietersen.
