Ashes 2019: Jack Leach produces a left-arm spinner’s delight to dismiss Marcus Harris
There was a daylight gap between the bat and the pad.
For any spinner, it is a delightful sight to get through the gap between bat and pad and then to get a batsman bowled. When a left-arm spinner does that to a left-hander, it is all that much more classy and fun to watch. Such scenes were on display in the third Ashes Test between England and Australia at is taking place at Headingley Stadium in Leeds. Jack Leach produced an absolute beauty to dismiss Marcus Harris and it is one of those replays you’d want to watch over and over again.
After getting a good lead in the first innings, Australia resumed with the second innings of the game. However, they lost David Warner for a duck. It was Stuart Broad, once again, who got the better of the left-hander. After this wicket fell, Marcus Harris in the company of Usman Khawaja tried to put things back on track.
The duo was looking good and they were building a nice, little partnership. Harris got to a good start and started to look good. He hit three boundaries in the first 18 balls that he faced and was oozing confidence.
An absolute peach of a delivery from Jack Leach
However, he failed to stay in the middle for a long time and get a big score courtesy of some brilliant bowling. Jack Leach was introduced into the attack in the 12th over of the innings as the second change bowler. There were a couple of rough patches on the pitch and the idea was possibly to make the best use of those. This move from Joe Root paid dividends instantly as Leach struck off the first ball that he bowled.
The ball was pitched into the rough and the left-hander was induced into the drive. However, just after pitching, the ball gained several more rotations and turned quite a bit. There was a clear daylight gap between the bat and the pad. The delivery comfortably got through and pegged the middle stump back. The England players were all delighted after watching this beauty of delivery and applauded Jack Leach for the brilliance.
