Ashes 2021-22: 3rd Test, Day 3 Stats Review: Scott Boland's memorable debut, England's low total and more stats
Will England remain winless on this tour?
England’s woeful tour down under continued as Joe Root and his men looked completely blanked yet again eventually surrendering the Ashes series. Losing four wickets quickly in the second innings was never going to help them as the inevitable happened on the third morning with debutant Scott Boland wreaking havoc. England were bowled out for just 68 runs and and Boland finished with unbelievable figures of 6/7.
Only two batters including captain Joe Root and Ben Stokes managed to reach double figures as England’s calamitous tour reached another low. Their batting looks completely out of sorts as the hosts have now beaten them in 12 out of the last 13 Tests played in Australia. Joe Root’s magical year with the bat continued as he completed 1700 runs in Tests this year.
With this loss, the tourists have now equaled Bangladesh’s record of nine losses which the sub-continent team listed in the year 2003. England is now joint-top with Bangla Tigers for most losses by a team in a calendar year. With the series already lost and the Urn gone, Joe Root’s men would now hope to play for some pride by performing better in the next two Tests.
Pat Cummins and his team will look to add more misery on the visitors by winning the fourth Test starting on January 5, 2022, in Sydney.
