Veteran left-arm seamer Ashish Nehra turned 38 today and the whole cricketing fraternity took to their twitter handle and wished the wily fast bowler. Most of them recalled his exceptional spell of 6/23 against England which came during the 2003 World Cup in South Africa. He also remains the only Indian bowler to bag two 6 wicket hauls in One-day international cricket.

He is the only player to survive from the 20th century as he made his national debut way back in 1999. While BCCI and ICC wished him with customary tweets, his former Indian mates and present mate wished him with funny and inspiring messages. Indian limited overs opener and Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma called him the most funniest and hardworking guy in the Indian team.

Veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh also took to his twitter handle and said some wonderful things about his mate. Happy birthday to my brother #ashishnehra Lots of love.God bless you.Zabardast banda hai tu bhai.. jeo hazaro sal. love always,” he wrote. Former Indian opener and a current cricket analyst also wished his one-time teammate.

Despite not featuring in the ODI’s Nehra continues to regularly feature in the shortest format of the game. Given his age, it will be a difficult task for him to make a comeback in the 50 overs but the effort he has put in for the last so many years might bring in the reckoning for a last burst in the 50 overs format.

During the T20I series against England, he was pretty impressive and bagged 3 crucial wickets in the 2nd encounter which helped India claw their way back into the series. He hasn’t been at his best in the ongoing IPL so far and has also missed a few matches for his franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad. He will be raring to go in the coming matches and make a case for himself to make a comeback in the 50 overs format.
