Glenn Maxwell was in fabulous touch in the recently concluded T20I series against India. The 30-year-old Australian all-rounder was the difference between the two sides as he scored 169 runs in two innings and helped Australia register their maiden T20I series win in India. Maxwell scored a fifty in the first game on a sluggish track before he followed it up with a scintillating ton in the second game while chasing 191. He played out the Indian bowlers very smartly and knew when to attack.

In the second T20I in Bengaluru, there was a lot of dew and hence, the Indian bowlers found it tough to execute their plans. The Indian pacers, Jasprit Bumrah and Siddarth Kaul tried to bowl full and hit the blockhole more often than not. While Bumrah was successful on most occasions, Kaul missed the mark multiple times and paid the price as Maxwell took full toll of the loose deliveries.

Former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra believes that the pacers could’ve changed the plans a bit. He feels that they could’ve tried to go back of a length, especially with the dew around and the yorkers difficult to hit with a wet ball. “I already said he is unstoppable. But, still, the ball is wet and bowling yorker is very difficult for him.

Someone like S Kaul or Jasprit Bumrah should try to bowl back of a length delivery which would be useful rather than going for yorkers. However, the kind of innings he played, bowlers have very less chance to come back,” Nehra was quoted saying by CricketNext.

Maxwell moves up to No. 3 in the ICC T20I Rankings

After a fabulous series against India where he won the Man of the Series award, Glenn Maxwell has moved up in the ICC T20I Rankings for batsmen. The Victorian all-rounder moved up a couple of spots to occupy the third position. He has 815 rating points which are more than what he had when he was No. 1 last year.

KL Rahul was another player who made a significant leap in the rankings. After a good show in the T20I series against Australia, he is now ranked 6th. Meanwhile, Afghanistan star Hazratullah Zazai has gained 32 places to occupy the 7th spot in the batsmen’s rankings.
