Ashish Nehra suggests when and how IPL 2020 can be organized this year
BCCI is expected to take decision over IPL 2020 in the upcoming days.
Indian Premier League 2020 was all set to get kicked off from 29th of March. But, BCCI was forced to postpone the tournament to mid-April. As far as the current situation is concerned, the 13th edition of the cash-rich league will most probably get cancelled for the ongoing year. But, Ashish Nehra, the former Indian pacer has a different point of view over the commencement of IPL 2020. He feels that there is still scope of IPL getting organized in 2020.
The sporting industry is hit with a major setback due to the pandemic. All the leagues associated with any sports have either been postponed or cancelled. Even global event like Olympic was also postponed for a year and now it will be held in 2021. The novel virus has taken thousands of lives across the globe. This is the reason that governments have announced lockdown in their countries.
Ashish Nehra puts forward his point of view over IPL 2020
There is no doubt over the fact that BCCI will be dealt with huge losses if IPL 2020 gets cancelled. Also, the Indian cricketers might also suffer a cut in their wages. The cricket board will soon take a decision over the uncertainty of the T20 tournament. However, the chances of it getting organized are quite slim considering the alarming conditions. Moreover, it is next to impossible for the government to dispose of the restrictions on any overseas entry in the country.
In an interview, Ashish Nehra, the former Indian pacer feels that even if IPL is not organized in the month of August, it is not a problem. As per him, if the things come back to normal until October then he is sure that IPL will most probably get clearance from the board and government.
“Even if the IPL doesn’t happen in August, there are a lot of places in India that witness rains during that month and there are high chances that lots of matches will get cancelled. If things go back to normal around the world by October, we’ll have a 100% clearance,” Nehra said on the Cricket Connected show on Star Sports.
There are also reports that BCCI might look to organize cash-rich league in the month of May or June. However, it is confirmed that the step will be taken keeping the security of the players in mind.
