Ashwell Prince appointed as Bangladesh's full-time batting consultant
Prince will take over the duty from Englishman Jon Lewis on a permanent basis after having an impressive stint with the Bangladesh team during the Zimbabwe series.
The former South Africa batsman Ashwell Prince has been appointed as the full-time batting consultant of the Bangladesh team until the 2022 T20 World Cup. He will now discontinue as the head coach at Newlands-based Western Province Cricket Association to take up this task. Prince will take over the duty from Englishman Jon Lewis on a permanent basis after having an impressive stint with the Bangladesh team during the Zimbabwe series.
The former Proteas batter Neil McKenzie was the batting consultant of Bangladesh prior to Jon Lewis. The former Proteas coach Russell Domingo is the head coach of Bangladesh currently whereas Ryan Cook is the fielding coach. Prince is thus another South African addition to the coaching contingent of the side. Previously, the BCB had expressed their interest in extending Prince’s contract as the batting consultant up to the T20 World Cup.
“We had appointed him for the Zimbabwe series initially. Since it will be hard to get a coach before the T20 World Cup, we took a bit of feedback and it has been generally positive. I think some of our batsmen did really well in Zimbabwe. Some of the players told us that they have confidence in him. They are satisfied with his work,” Akram Khan, the BCB’s cricket operations chairman had stated as reported by ESPNCricinfo.
Bangladesh exuded great character against Australia in the recent series
The Bangladesh cricket team impressed everybody with their performances against Australia in the recently concluded T20I series. Australia struggled as their batting line-up couldn’t hold the fort for the team. The script quite didn’t change for any of the games as they were completely outplayed by Bangladesh. The hosts registered a dominated series win of 4-1 against the hosts. It was Bangladesh’s first bilateral series victory against the mighty Australians.
Previously, when the team was up against Zimbabwe they secured victory in the one-off Test match and also continued their momentum in the white-ball series. They clinched victory in the ODI series 3-0 while they won the T20Is by 2-1. Ahead of the T20 World Cup in the UAE, these series victories would have boosted the confidence of the side.
