Ravichandran Ashwin was one of the core members of the Indian cricket team in 2016 and around that period across all three formats. He was also arguably the best spinner and bowler at the time and was known for being a prolific wicket-taker.

Against Pakistan in the 2016 Asia Cup, Ashwin bowled three overs and conceded 21 runs without picking a wicket. He also went on to play in the 2016 T20 World Cup, 2017 Champions Trophy and the 2021 T20 World Cup but missed out on the 2019 World Cup.

In 2022, Ashwin has taken 17 wickets in nine matches across formats, with best figures of four wickets for 47 runs. He also picked up 12 wickets in the last eight T20Is and is in the Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2022.
