As the momentum builds towards the mother of all battles– India vs Pakistan – in the upcoming Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates, concerned quarters have started to extract the maximum out of it. Star Sports, the official broadcaster of the tournament, has launched a new commercial as part of its Asia Cup #KnockThemOut campaign to make the most of the high-voltage clash between the two arch-rivals.
India and Pakistan will meet at least two times in the tournament, if not more. On September 19, they will lock horns in their group A game at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Both of them are likely to qualify for the Super Four as the top two teams from the group as the third team to qualify would be either UAE or Hong Kong. In the Super Four stage, too, the winner and runners-up of Group A will meet each other in Dubai on September 23.
Star Sports’ latest TVC, designed for the September 19 clash, is an indicator of how the two teams see each other when they meet. A little teasing here and there and then the two neighbours clash big time. Omi Vaidya, the famed ‘Chatur Ramalingam’ from ‘3 Idiots’ plays the irritating neighbour who keeps on taking a dig at his newly moved-in Naveen Kasturia.

Vidya is a typical ‘Pange waala padosi’ who also teases Kasturia during an apartment cricket match, resembling Aamer Sohail’s act in regards to Venkatesh Prasad in the quarter-finals of the 1996 World Cup in Bengaluru.
The film has been created by the Star Sports creative communications team and is produced for Star Sports by Nirvana Films, said a report by Inside Sport.
India, who will be led by Rohit Sharma instead of Virat Kohli in the tournament, will kick off their campaign against the winner of the qualifying tournament currently underway in Malaysia on September 18. On the very next day, they take on their arch-rivals. In the past, ‘Mauka’ commercials on India vs Pakistan games during ICC World Cups have also proved to be popular. It is time now for the focus to shift to the Asia Cup.
