Asia Cup 2018: Shahid Afridi takes to Twitter to show disappointment over Pakistan’s exit
For Pakistan, their last big feat in ODIs came in the finals of the Champions Trophy last year.
The Pakistan Cricket Team’s performance in the Asia Cup 2018 has left many fans and former players disappointed, including Shahid Afridi. The former all-rounder took to Twitter to express disappointment over his team’s loss to Bangladesh in the virtual semi-final. Bangladesh, with brilliant bowling and fielding performance, beat Pakistan by 37 runs in the last Super Four encounter at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.
Pakistan, who were the tournament favourites, played dismal cricket throughout the tourney. None of their batsman, barring the experienced Shoaib Malik, could do anything substantial with the bat. Their famed bowling line-up also faltered and their fielding was also below the mark.
Afridi, in a tweet, expressed his disappointment saying, “Congratulations Bangladesh, disappointed by Pakistani team’s overall performance. Lacked attacking play of cricket in all fields. It is a young side who performed well in the last tournaments and set our expectations high. More focus and practice is needed for a stronger comeback.”

Bangladesh have now entered the final of the Asia Cup, and it has been a great comeback by the Tigers in this tournament since their defeat against India in their first Super Four encounter. Even in the absence of injured Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan, the Tigers decided to fight till the end. This will be Bangladesh’s third appearance in the final of the Asia Cup in past four editions.
India vs Bangladesh final
For Pakistan, their last big feat in ODIs came in the finals of the Champions Trophy last year, a memory which is slowly beginning to fade from the memories. They have several areas of concern ahead of the 2019 World Cup, one of which is Sarfraz Ahmed’s impulsive captaincy.
Now, Bangladesh will be aiming to put up a tough fight against India in all three departments. The final will be played on Friday in Dubai.
