Asia Cup 2018: Suresh Raina congratulates Team India for sailing into the final
India crushed Pakistan by nine wickets to book their place in the final.
India batsman Suresh Raina took to Twitter to congratulate his teammates for handsomely making it through to the final of the ongoing Asia Cup. On Sunday, the Men in Blue defeated Pakistan for a second time in this edition of the tournament to seal a berth in the final which is scheduled to be played on Friday. Their openers crushed Pakistan with a record 210-run partnership, chasing down a total of 238 with ease. Both Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma notched up centuries and had no difficulty scoring against a lacklustre Pakistan bowling line-up.
Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Pakistan once again lost their openers quickly. The Champions Trophy final hero Fakhar Zaman got caught up in a bizarre dismissal which saw him slip to the ground. However, veteran Shoaib Malik along with captain Sarfraz Ahmed pulled things back for their team with a steady 107-run partnership. But the latter’s departure arrested the run-scoring and Pakistan could only manage 237 runs at the end of their innings. Jasprit Bumrah’s accuracy and his effective yorkers did the bulk of the damage in the death overs.
After the match, all-rounder Suresh Raina sent out a congratulatory message for the Men in Blue. He tweeted, “Through to the #AsiaCup2018 finals! what an outstanding win… well done guys! @SDhawan25 @ImRo45 #INDvPAK.”
Who will qualify for the final?
With one game to play in the Super Four stage, India are already through to the final of the Asia Cup. They will face either of Pakistan or Bangladesh, who will take on each other in a virtual semi-final. Bangladesh won a final over thriller against Afghanistan on Sunday to keep their hopes of yet another Asia Cup final alive.
Pakistan also got out of the jail a few days ago against the same team which has kept them in the hunt so far. It is expected to be a humdinger of an encounter between both the teams and it will be interesting to see who meets India in the title clash.
