Amid Coronavirus outbreak, the meeting of ACC to decide the venues of  Asia Cup 2020 has been postponed to future due to Coronavirus pandemic. Like several other sporting events, the fate of another high profile tournament is uncertain as far as the conditions are concerned.

Asia Cup 2020, which will be played between India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Pakistan, is scheduled to begin from September. But due to the COVID-19 outbreak, it seems impossible to even set up a meeting for the same. Recently, India Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced 21-day lockdown in the country.

This decision was also a massive blow for the cricket fans, who were waiting for the commencement of IPL 2020. Other sports events have also been postponed to the future. The biggest of all was the Olympics being postponed for a year.

Uncertainty hovers around Asia Cup 2020

In the meantime, ACC was scheduled to organize a meeting to decide the possible venues for Asia Cup 2020 that will be hosted by Pakistan Cricket Board. It gained importance after Sourav Ganguly, the BCCI President gave a denial to the fact that Team India will not travel to Pakistan for playing cricket. However, he had no issues to play at a neutral venue. This decision was taken by the board looking forward to the current political tension between the two countries.

On the other hand, PCB was in consent to host some of the games of Asia Cup 2020 against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan in their country. According to PCB, it would be a big benefit for them at the time when cricket is slowly returning back on track in their nation.

“PCB’s stance is that with international cricket slowly returning to Pakistan could benefit from hosting few games of the Asia Cup at home,” the source said as quoted by India Today.

Earlier this month, ACC was forced to cancel the meeting due to Coronavirus. The officials thought that they will organize it on the sidelines of ICC meeting but that never happened. Now, that meeting will be held through video conference.
