Asia Cup 2020 will be held in Dubai; both India and Pakistan will play: Sourav Ganguly

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, on Friday, confirmed that Dubai will host the upcoming Asia Cup 2020 in September. The former Indian captain also asserted that both India and Pakistan are set to play the tournament. It’s a well-known fact that India and Pakistan haven’t played a bilateral series since 2012-13 when Pakistan visited India for a limited-overs series.

Pakistan were the actual hosts for the tournament but the BCCI, earlier, made it clear that the Indian cricket team will not be participating in the continental tournament if Pakistan hosts it in their country. Sourav Ganguly is set to attend the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting on March 3 in Dubai.

“Asia Cup will be held in Dubai and both India and Pakistan will play,” Ganguly told reporters as quoted by News 18. Earlier, the Indian cricket board clarified that they have no objections in Pakistan hosting the tournament, provided it’s in a neutral venue. India and Pakistan last met each other in a league game in the 2019 World Cup, which India won quite convincingly.

Sourav Ganguly hails Indian women’s team in Australia

Later, the BCCI president congratulated the Indian women’s team on being qualified for the semi-final of the Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia. Women in Blue became the first team to go ahead to the knock-out stage after defeating Australia, Bangladesh and New Zealand in three consecutive games. They are still left with a league game against Sri Lanka.

“They are playing some fantastic cricket and have qualified. Nobody is favourites in a world tournament. They are a good side, let’s see where they finish,” Ganguly said on Indian women’s cricket team’s performance in Australia.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli-led Indian team will take on New Zealand in the 2nd Test at Hagley Oval from the 29th of February. India will be stepping into this game with 0-1 after losing the first Test in Wellington by 10 wickets. Ganguly felt confident that Team India will bounce back strong as there were many instances of India coming back after lagging in a series.

“They have come back before. I’m sure they will bounce back again. There’s still one Test remaining,” Ganguly concluded.
