Asia XI vs World XI T20Is postponed by BCB due to Coronavirus threat
Furthermore, BCB might also cancel their third and final phase of the Pakistan tour, which was organized after much persuasion.
The wrath of Coronavirus is spreading across the globe by leaps and bounds with every passing day. Due to its life-threatening effect, the spread of Coronavirus has led to many football games getting played behind closed doors. The Covid-19 virus is also expected to serve as a roadblock in many cricketing events including the much-awaited IPL 2020.
Amid the fear of Coronavirus, the highly-anticipated T20I series between Asia and World XI has also been postponed. The two T20Is of the series, which were slated to take place on March 21 and 22 respectively, have been postponed. Nazmul Hasan, the president of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), confirmed it to the media on Wednesday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
“We are confronting some problems to host these two games on the pre-scheduled dates. So we have decided to postpone these games for now. We will let you know further updates later,” Nazmul told the media as quoted by United News of Bangladesh (UNB).
A grand concert was also slated to take place on March 18
A grand concert was also scheduled to take place before the series on March 18 to add to the shimmer of the tournament. However, the concert has also been postponed for an indefinite time and the board is expected to take a decision within the span of a month.
“We had two options regarding the concert. We would have hosted it in smaller arrangements or postpone it. We took the second one- we postponed the concert for an indefinite time. We will make a further decision after a month,” added Nazmul.
Furthermore, BCB might also cancel their third and final phase of the Pakistan tour, which was organized after much persuasion. The Coronavirus scare is affecting many sporting events and it looks like its outrage is going start affecting cricket too. The Tigers are scheduled to lock horns with Pakistan for a Test and an ODI in Karachi in April.
“We are thinking on it (to cancel Pakistan tour). We need to sit again for further discussion,” said Nazmul regarding the forthcoming Pakistan tour.
