End of India’s longest losing streak:
7 – The 13-run win against Australia brought an end to India’s 7-match losing streak in International cricket which is their longest losing streak ever. India lost seven successive International matches during the 1999-00 tour of Australia and seven in a row during the 2002-03 season including six on New Zealand tour. India’s victory during the 3rd AUS vs IND ODI is also their first in the ODI format after losing five consecutive games.
End of a high-scoring series:
2000 – Exactly 2000 runs were aggregated during the 3-match ODI series between Australia and India. This is only the 2nd 3-match ODI series with an aggregate of 2000+ runs. The 3-match ODI series in India featuring England in 2017 witnessed a total of 2090 runs.
51 – As many as 51 sixes were hit during this series; the 2nd most in any bilateral ODI series on Australian soil. The 2016 5-match ODI series between Australia and India witnessed a total of 52 sixes being hit by both team’s batsmen.
Australia’s maiden defeat in Capital city:
1 – The 13-run defeat during 3rd AUS vs IND ODI is Australia’s first-ever loss in Men’s International cricket at the Manuka Oval in Canberra which is the capital city of Australia. The Aussie Men’s team won all the six International games they played in Canberra before this game including four ODI matches.
121 – India registered their maiden win in International cricket at Manuka Oval. They played two ODI matches in Canberra before this game and lost on both instances.
The Manuka Oval is the 121st venue in International cricket where they won at least one game outright. These are the most number of venues where a team won in International cricket surpassing Australia’s tally of 120 grounds.
A rare century less series for India:
1 – Hardik Pandya’s 92* in the 3rd AUS vs IND ODI is the highest individual score for India in this series. This is also the first-ever bilateral ODI series against Australia for India where no player scored an individual hundred.
1992 – The last Australian tour where no Indian scored a century in ODI format was during the 1991-1992 tour where they played as many as 15 ODIs. India had at least one individual ton in ODI cricket during seven consecutive tours of Australia.
Kohli @ 12000 runs:
242 – Virat Kohli became the 6th player to complete 12000 runs in the ODI format and became the quickest to get there. Kohli needed only 242 innings while Sachin Tendulkar, the previous fastest to the milestone, needed 300 innings.
A big series with the bat for Pandya:
2 – Hardik Pandya became only the 3rd player in ODI history with multiple 90+ scores in the same series while batting at No.6 or lower. Shahid Afridi smashed two centuries in the 2010 Asia Cup while batting at No.6 while Kedar Jadhav scored 120 and 90 respectively during the 2017 home series against England.
2 – Hardik is also the first player with multiple 90+ scores in the ODI format on Australian soil while batting at No.6 or a lower position. Hardik’s unbeaten 92 in the 3rd ODI is also the 4th highest individual ODI score against Australia by No.6 or lower position batsman in Australia.
210 – Hardik Pandya’s 210 runs in this ODI series are the 5th most by any player in a 3-match ODI series while batting at No.6 and lower position. These are also the 2nd most for India behind Kedar Jadhav who aggregated 232 runs in the 2017 home series against England. No player before Hardik scored even 200 runs in a 3-match ODI series in Australia while batting at No.6 or lower.
A record partnership:
150* – The unbeaten stand between Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja is India’s 3rd highest partnership for 6th or lower wicket in ODI format. Ambati Rayudu and Stuart Binny put on 160 in the 2015 Harare ODI against Zimbabwe while Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni added 155 also against Zimbabwe in 2005; both of them for the 6th wicket only. Hardik-Jadeja stand is also the highest for 6th and lower wicket in ODIs by any pair against Australia.
An expensive debut for Natarajan:
70 – Thangarasu Natarajan became only the 4th Indian to concede as many as 70 runs on ODI debut. Karsan Ghavri gave away 83 runs in the 1975 CWC opener against England while Amit Bhandari in 2000 and Mohammed Siraj in 2019 respectively conceded 75 and 76 runs on their ODI debut. However, Natarajan’s maiden wicket ended India’s drought for a wicket during the powerplay in the away ODIs this year.
Spin dominates Australia’s bowling:
2 – Glenn Maxwell became 2nd spinner to opening the bowling for Australia in Men’s ODIs while bowling first. Nathan Lyon was the first to do so during the 2016 Colombo-RPS ODI against Sri Lanka. There are six other instances of Australia opening the bowling with a spinner but while bowling second.
25 – Australia’s spin bowlers bowled a total of 25 overs in this match; the 2nd most they bowled during a home ODI in Men’s cricket. The Australian spinners bowled as many as 27 overs during the 1989 Sydney ODI against West Indies.
A century less year for the senior duo:
2008 – 2020 is only the 2nd calendar year where Virat Kohli failed to score a century in the ODI format. He couldn’t score a ton in 2008 where he made his debut in international cricket.
2013 – Shikhar Dhawan’s century less 2020 ended his streak of scoring a century in every calendar year from 2013 to 2019. The debut year 2010 and 2011 are the only calendar years without an ODI ton for Dhawan before 2020.
