Australia Federal Police mocks England team after Kangaroos win Old Trafford Test
While Smith played his part with the bat to help Australia reach a commanding position, it was Pat Cummins’ 4 for 43 that broke England’s back during their chase.
Two weeks ago, England came back from nowhere to register a one-wicket victory over Australia in the third Test of the Ashes to level the series 1-1. But this Sunday, the hosts could not repeat their Leeds feat and lost the fourth Test at Old Trafford by 185 runs to concede 1-2 lead to the Baggy Greens. The loss also means Australia will retain their hold on the urn which they had won the last time at home in 2017-18. The fifth and final Test will begin at the Oval on September 12 and the Brits will be under immense pressure to make it 2-2.
The victory marked a sort of revival of Australian cricket. Ever since Steve Smith and David Warner went out of international cricket because of a ball-tampering scandal, Australia failed to perform well. They even lost to India in a Test series at home last summer. There was a turnaround of sort in the limited-over formats but in red-ball cricket, the Kangaroos struggled. But this Ashes marked a special occasion for Australia as a team and Smith as a player. The former skipper played his first Test series after a year and he has slammed 671 runs in three matches so far with three hundreds and two high fifties.
AFP mocks England also over their World cup win
The inner rivalry between two of cricket’s oldest rivals came out in the open after England failed to bat out the last day of the Old Trafford Test match. Chasing 383, the Three Lions were all out for 197 with around 17 overs still to be played. And after Tim Paine’s win, Australian Federal Police (AFP) brutally mocked the home team by taking a dig at it over its controversial win over New Zealand in the final of the ICC World Cup in July. England won the match by the count of hitting more boundaries after the game remained tied after 100 overs as well as the super over.
“Good to see reports that a group of Australians in Manchester overnight have foiled the activities of a gang involved in a series of robberies targeting Aussies and Kiwis in England this Northern summer. You’re welcome,” one of the AFP’s sarcastic tweets read.
“This gang previously stole a valuable cup from the hands of some of our NZ neighbors in London, followed by one of their red-headed members attempting to wrestle an antique urn away from its rightful owners during a visit to Headingly,” read another.
A third one said, “We are glad to see the urn is back where it belongs.” It was tagged New Zealand Police in the Trans-Tasman camaraderie. Australia will remain undefeated in an Ashes series from England after 18 long years. It was in 2001 that they had last won a Test series in England and it was under Steve Waugh’s leadership.
While the man of the match Smith played his part with the bat to help Australia reach a commanding position, it was Pat Cummins’ 4 for 43 that broke England’s back during their chase.
