Australia likely to tour Bangladesh in late August for two Tests
"We're just working through all the details. I'm very pleased to be at a stage of really fine-tuning the detail," CA Chief quoted.
The recent developments about the much anticipated Australia tour to Bangladesh suggest that the Aussies will tour to the Asian country in late August this year. They are slated to play two Tests during the tour. Also, if the series gets underway, it will be the only Test assignment for Australia prior to their next summer clash with the English side in the Ashes.
As per the recent quotes in cricket.com.au, Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland has stated that the series is almost set to be played this season. They have arrived at a stage from wherein they only need to fine tune the details of the tour. Also, the security arrangements will be made thereafter. CA has a few concerns to address before finalizing the tour.
“We’re just working through all the details. I’m very pleased to be at a stage of really fine-tuning the detail – there are still some things that we need to work through just to lock down on security. Once our hosts have locked in dates and the schedule, then from us it’s all systems go, subject to any security concerns we might have,” quoted Sutherland.
He further added that as per the information received from all important and necessary departments, it is a green signal for the tour. If the series gets underway, it will be the first Australian tour to Bangladesh since they last visited the country in the year 2006. That tour is still remembered for Jason Gillespie’s double ton with the bat after having come as the night watchman.
“From all the research we’ve done and the work we’ve done with (the Department of) Foreign Affairs and others through government agencies, we’re confident the tour will take place,” said the CA chief.
Earlier, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan had also shown his optimism regarding the tour. There are no reports about the ODIs being stuffed in the short tour as well for now.
