Australia slips to new low in ICC World Rankings
This is the lowest the Aussies have slumped to in almost 34 years.
Since the turn of the millennium, the Australia cricket team has been revered and known for their assertive dominance in cricket. Apart from T20 cricket where they have some catching up to do, their dominance in ODI and Test cricket has been rather well-documented. However, in recent times, they have fallen out of favor with the ensuing scandals and their subsequent fall from grace has seen them slump to perhaps their lowest ranking ever.
At the moment, Tim Paine and his band of merry men sit pretty at sixth place behind Pakistan, a rating the Aussies have not seen since the World Cup of 1983. The recent losses in the ODIs at the hands of England has seen the slump go from bad to worse.
Speaking about the same, Tim Paine, the charismatic skipper of the Australian side stated that he believed that his side did indeed have a good chance of winning. “I think we can (win), I really do,” he said. “I think our best cricket is good enough to beat these guys, we just haven’t put the complete package together. “In the first game we didn’t bat well, and (in Cardiff) we didn’t bowl as well as we would have liked.”
Marsh calls for improvement
Shaun Marsh, one of the more experienced players in the side hinted at optimism stating that the side was indeed heading in the right direction with lots of room for improvement.
“We know we need to improve a fair bit to get that win,” he said. “We’re heading in the right direction but we still need lots of improvement. “Hopefully we can see that in a few days’ time and try and get back into this series.”
