Following the culmination of the pay dispute between the Cricket Australia (CA) and the Australian Cricket Association (ACA), the Australian cricket team is set to tour Bangladesh for a bilateral series after six years. It will be eleven years later since the sides have faced each other in Tests. Australia last toured Bangladesh for a series in 2011 after World Cup when they played three ODIs. The Australian side again visited Bangladesh in 2014 for World T20.

The Ricky Ponting-led Australian team in 2006 was the last squad to tour the Asian country for a Test series. Australia went on to register a dominating 2-0 victory in the 2-match series. The team from Down Under was also supposed to tour Bangladesh for a Test series in October 2015. However, CA withdrew from the tour due to security concerns.

The Australia U19 team as well didn’t take part in U19 World Cup which took place next year, January-February 2016 owing to the same reasons. The series was eventually pushed back to 2017. However, owing to the recently-resolved pay dispute between the two governing bodies in Australian cricket the tour has been given a green signal.

Australia is scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on August 18 and they have already named a 14-member squad.
