Australia vs India: Dean Jones picks the favourites of the Test series
He also picked key players for India during the tour.
The much awaited India tour of Australia will be commencing on November 21 with the three-match T20 International series. But all the eyes will be on the Test series where the two teams will lock horns in four matches from December 6. India have never won a Test series down under and this is being touted as their chance to triumph. However, the former Australian cricketer Dean Jones has also picked India as the favourites to win the contest.
Last time India toured Australia, it turned out to be the last series for MS Dhoni in the whites as he decided to suddenly retire after the third Test. Virat Kohli was handed over the reins of the team from the fourth match itself as the visitors competed well only to lose the series by 2-0. With Steve Smith and David Warner serving their year-long bans, India will face the weakest Australian team at home.
Jones picks Australia’s threats
Dean Jones also felt that Ravi Ashwin will be the key bowler for the Indian team as he had a brilliant series last time. He predicted for the offie to have a gala time during the four-match series and went on to say that it will all boil down to how the home side tackle Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav.
“I’m expecting Ashwin to have a ripper of a series. He had a good series last time India were here, and had he played in that first Test in Adelaide, India might have won the series. India have a good chance, they’ve never won a Test series over here, and if they don’t I would be surprised,” he was quoted as saying by International Business Times.
Moreover, Dean Jones also advocated for the inclusion of Peter Handscomb in the playing XI who is a better player of spin and backed Aaron Finch to counter their threat. “Finch opened the innings, but he will bat at No 5 at home when India come over. We should have Marcus Harris into the side by then, he’s scored the most runs in the last three Sheffield Shield seasons, which is phenomenal. Matt Renshaw will play and I think Usman [Khawaja] will bat at 3,” Jones concluded.
