Australia and India will renew their rivalry in the fifty-over format from January 12 after a high-intensity Test series which the visitors won. The home side is in shambles at the moment as the selectors have made a lot of changes to the side which faced South Africa at home a couple of months ago. However, amidst all the off-field controversies, Australia are set to turn the clock back in the series opener as they will wear the retro kit used in the 1980s.

Cricket Australia’s official website revealed the news stating that Australia will wear the same kit which was used during their corresponding 1986 series against India. Peter Siddle who is making a comeback to the ODI side after almost eight years was aged one at that time and is pretty excited to feature in the game.

“It’s pretty awesome actually. We found out the other day we were going to be in it, so the boys were a bit excited to get their pack and open up and check it out. Everyone is very impressed,” he said.

Green and Gold kits

Australia used to wear the green and gold kits for the ODIs back in the 1980s and the jersey has evolved over the years from then. However, this is an interesting move from Cricket Australia as, in a way, they are paying a tribute to the legendary cricketers who represented the country then.

In the meantime, Siddle is also set to pull out an extra accessory as well to bring the old look back if he gets a chance to feature in any of the games. “I might just pull out the headband. I’ll have to ask Zamps (Adam Zampa) to borrow one of his and go with the DK (Lillee) headband. We’ll see what we pull out on Saturday,” the fast bowler added.
